CS quarterly questionnaire?

Just to satisfy my curiosity; did any of the regular readers/posters of OCS receive this mysterious ‘quarterly questionnaire‘ about CS QoS? Not trying to prove a conspiracy (yet, lol), but since no information about this is given on CS, it would be interesting to reconstruct the user pool it was sent to.

  • I haven’t seen or heard anything about it. :)

  • wow, you missed something there: you could even quantify downtime and how easy it is for volunteers to join :D

  • I got it too! So it s not localy since I m in Costa Rica and alex in Holland and some guys in Austria and London got it as well :)

  • i had it

  • I needed to check something on the web site in a hurry last night, and it popped up blocking my log-in. So I had to click “continue” to get past it, without looking at it, and now it seems gone. How rude, and how stupid! And without any communication or consultation once again. I have yoghurt in my refridgerator that could have given them advice how to do this better.

  • heehee i like how the guy who said “So I had to click “continue” to get past it, without looking at it” went on to complain how it wasn’t communicated right. :) how would he even know HOW it was communicated when he admitted he went past it “without looking at it”?

And if your yoghurt has so much to say about how to do things better then why not share its advice? Or would you rather just be harshly critical and mean?

that’s just it though isn’t it?

click continue and it disappears forever, that’s not communication, it’s just smoke.

  • “that’s not communication, it’s just smoke.”

Is it really “smoke” because some guy complained that there was no communication in something he didn’t bother reading?

Yep, definitely sounds like a smoke screen and a conspiracy to me.

You guys are funny. You’ll find fault anywhere, even when you don’t bother reading what’s being communicated.

  • I’m beginning to be disenchanted with this web site because of the anonymous arseholes displaying their charm and wit, knowing that they can’t be held accountable. It’s irritating, and disinclines me to come here. Can we have a debate whether we should move to a compulsary registration policy, requiring a valid email address?

  • The questionnaire appears when you hit the homepage I think. I just did and I saw it. I’ve completed it now. It’s only 4 questions, but did give me a chance to share my views.

  • Good idea, Pickwick. Let’s start commenting on all the things that we find wrong with THIS website. OCS is an equal opportunity complaining platform, right?

“I’m beginning to be disenchanted with this web site because of…”

…the habitual need of so many here to put an identity to any perspective that differs from the theme of droning on about anything even remotely negative about CS as possible, no matter how you have to twist it. (even by complaining about something someone didn’t bother reading)

Here’s a new tagline suggestion. OCS: “Disregarding the content of any dissenters, one personal attack at a time.”

    Anyone else?

  • @Pickwick
We’re working on a proper solution. In the meantime I suggest you don’t feed the trolls.

  • tgoorden’s definition of a troll is apparently anyone who doesn’t tow the OCS party line of knocking down anything that CS puts up. would you say that’s accurate?

daz/dawg/jerme are great examples. did you ever consider to their actions as trolling or do they not count since they are anti-anything the cs does also?

  • ULf is a BIG drunk coward.

  • @roper
What OCS party line are you talking about? What makes you think everyone agrees with daz/dawg/jerme or even me? Sigh.

Once more: OCS is a truly open forum. You can (theoretically) write whatever you like. Not everyone might agree with you and a lot of people might not even like you. If you try to incite dissent amongst this group of radically disorganized people, you will be called a troll by me (and a silly one at that). Questions?

  • is the blog layout broken?
    or is it my browser?

  • Thomas, since the OCS blog/forum for views was based on dissent, i say, fine for the dissent on here, why not?

Be reasonable, people on LT salaries have to have somewhere to express their views freely!
    :D

  • @tgoorden: “What OCS party line are you talking about?”

Sigh. Let me be more clear. I know no one likes to specifically identify with being “OCS” or whatever, but you have all kinds of people that come and post here. Many of them are harsh and troll-like but because they agree with the OCS line that anything “within the Couchsurfing core itself” is evil and everything they do is wrong and stupid they don’t get labeled as such. It doesn’t matter how polite or well organized your argument is here; if you don’t agree blindly with that sentiment you’re labeled as a silly troll. That’s just how it is here and as long as it is you can’t expect any sort of real discussion to take place on this forum. And maybe you don’t really want to, which is why some guy can comment simply with “ULf is a BIG drunk coward” and get no “you’re a troll” response from you or anyone.

For “OCS” (if anyone wants to claim to be OCS anyway) it appears more of a platform for just bitching and belittling about everything that comes out of CS by calling it spin and smoke, and without any real alternative suggestions which is what “help Couchsurfing by opening the organisation from the outside” would arguably seem to be about. That’s how it seems, but you guys aren’t that honest, open, and transparent about it. If it’s just a soapbox to complain about how things aren’t going the way a few of you think is best (even though you offer no viable suggestions) then just be clear about that. Otherwise some people might actually think this is a forum for a real , balanced discussion, which it obviously is not.

@Valeri: “since the OCS blog/forum for views was based on dissent, i say, fine for the dissent on here”. If that was actually the reigning thought of this channel it would be nice, but for whatever reason it just sadly isn’t so.

Flame away, “OCS”. You seem to have nothing better to do.

  • C’mon Roper, you’re blowing whatever reasonable case you had.

    >>if you don’t agree blindly with that sentiment you’re labeled as a silly troll.

Nope, wrong, not true. Margaret is the best example, and many others exist, of people who don’t agree full-on (or sometimes even partly) with the ‘OCS line’ (if there is such) and are NOT labeled trolls but instead are welcomed. No need to make things black and white, there’s a full range of attitudes on here.

    >>which is why some guy can comment simply with “ULf is a BIG drunk coward” and get no “you’re a troll” response from you or anyone.

Jeez.. there was no requirement on sign up here to belabor the obvious. why would anyone waste a post pointing it out?

    >>and without any real alternative suggestions which is what “help Couchsurfing by opening the organisation from the outside” would arguably seem to be about.

Those ‘alternative suggestions’ have been given over the past 18 months, over and over again, in every imaginable way, through every available channel, on virtually every forum possible, through private messages and intermediaries, ambassadors and volunteers, CUQs and personal connections — ***ON CS*** – many many MANY given by the people on here. In the past month alone on CS, there have been numerous (+10) requests by AMBASSADORS for changes and responses, and giving suggestions and offering assistance from the abstract down to algorithmic and database suggestions. Those people TOO are being ignored. Go read the threads, the Ambs have been bitching about it, it’s the 3rd or 4th Cycle of Disenchantment with CS Leaders, i forget how many ;)

And in fact there HAVE been a number of clear suggestions on here as well, for CS – just ones the LT doesn’t want to hear. However — the difference is that no one is expecting any of the CS LT to read and accept any suggestions on here. Many did have that hope for CS groups like ‘Community Communications’, ‘Brainstorm _ BS Redefined’ and ‘CSC Thailand Public – Questions and Answers’ as well as the Ambassadors Groups. Still virtually nada (one post from Gen Mgr Matthew) – but basically no response, no support, no acknowledgment, no answers, and no apologies (for instance to Ambassador Rakkaus, who ended up fielding a huge media opportunity for CS at a national show, alone and virtually unsupported, when the CS media person didn’t show). Sadly, ANY trust in CS leadership keeps being betrayed.. so ironic for a trust network!

  • I’d love to follow this thoughtful post up with a continuation of a reasonable discussion… but then I happen to catch up beforehand on the other posts of this site (like jerme) and think, why waste my time? Enjoy your soapbox, OCS.
