How many employees?

I’m getting more and more confused. From the Policy FAQ:

Who is currently on the CouchSurfing payroll? (updated)
Casey Fenton, starting midway through 2005.  Jim Stone and Mattthew Brauer starting in the summer of 2007.  Their roles are Volunteer Coordinator and General Manger, respectively.  Casey has now taken on the role of CIO and Tech Team Coordinator.  No one else is on the payroll.  A new developer may be contracted full-time in November or December of 2007.

From the general manager,  10/04/07 5:51 am, in the private Ambassador group:

I’m the General Manager and one of CouchSurfing’s four paid employees.  I’ve started maintaining a blog, and I invite you to read it if you’re interested in learning more about what I do and what the Leadership Team does.  I hope this will allow you to be more informed and better connected.

I’ll spare you the link to the blog…

  • My money is on: Weston Hanks and “Aargh” Donna, which would mean they’re both illegally being payed.

  • the cardhouse of lies is lacking glue

  • Quite amazing that you spared us the link. I’m quite interested in it, and am amazed that you are that open at OCS!

  • Ok, sorry for sparing the link, here’s a convenient one: http://www.couchsurfing.com/groups/general_manager

  • @Diederik The posts say private Ambassador group. So almost 95% of couch surfers cannot access this group . So a link would be pointless .Why would a general manager post in secret? Think about it . It there is nothing to hide .

  • @Daz. If that is top-secret information, why disclose it in half via this blog? We can’t check this, so for my point of view, it is disinformation

  • Well, there actually is a blog. The link to it was originally published in ambassadors’ private, someone posted something in Brainstorm (where I caught the referral as I’m no longer part of the private amb groups) and the blog (which is public) could be found among Mattthew’s groups after that. To save further trouble for OCS readers, let me introduce the links here:

    * “blog” (=in the form of CS group, the intended WordPress integration sort of fell through in Nelson)

    * For commenting on the blog

    Enjoy ;)

  • Diederik “it is disinformation”

Yes you could be right or wrong unless you can confirm for sure it is disinformation .

I would hope people on the server team who are working on the live servers right now have the access to correct information .

So could you confirm this as definitely disinformation?

If it is disinformation what is the correct information?
Why is an announcement most companies feel proud to announce considered top-secret information?

And if you do want to get the real information and find being an employee does not help. Please do post your question to the general manager http://www.couchsurfing.com/group.html?gid=7219 and we would be glad to get the real infomation

  • totally unrelated to this topic, i have created a group on cs to appreciate and bow to visionary leadership

  • I think Casey should grow a moustache too!

  • “By the way (and on a eerily related topic) I just hired my first Indian “virtual assistant” today. As I’m typing this he’s doing a lot of grunt, data-processing work that I’ve been putting off forever which gives me time to watch YouTube episodes about how the India and China are not only catching up to the US but passing it by. Interesting stuff, yo.”

So says Jim on his website:
    http://www.fliptophead.com

Looks like the LT is taking the path of contracting work out to Indian IT workers.

  • That doesn’t really surprise me. Casey was thinking of hiring Indians to do coding for the website back in Montreal…
